Work & Disability Advocate

Navigating work, disability and return to work challenges

When your health affects your ability to work, there can be a lot to figure out.

You may be off work and unsure what happens next. Perhaps you’re preparing to return after an absence, trying to understand what accommodations you may need, or are facing the possibility that returning to work may not be possible.

With more than 30 years of experience in Occupational Health and Disability Management, Lucie understands both the practical and personal challenges that can come with these situations. Together, we can look at where you stand, the questions you need answered, and the options available to help you decide what comes next.

This service is provided directly to you as an individual. Where helpful, and at your request, my work could also include communication with workplace parties. This is not disability claims management or medical treatment. It is practical, experienced guidance for navigating the paperwork, workplace processes and bigger decisions that can come with illness/disability and work.

What Can Work & Disability Advocacy Help With?

Work & disability advocacy may include:

  • Understanding and completing disability-related forms and paperwork

  • Organizing information needed for an employer, insurer or healthcare provider

  • Staying at work when your health has changed

  • Understanding workplace accommodation and possible options

  • Preparing for conversations with stakeholders

  • Adjusting to new limitations or a change in capacity

  • Returning to work after an illness or disability

  • Exploring what work — and life — could look like now, if returning to the job is not possible

“You are not your illness. You have an individual story to tell. You have a name, a history, a personality. Staying yourself is part of the battle.”
— Dr. Julian Seifter

More Information about Work & Disability Advocacy

Do I need to be off work to use this service?

No. You may be off work and preparing to return, struggling to remain at work because of a health change, considering workplace accommodation, or facing the possibility that returning to work may not be possible.

Can you help me with disability forms and paperwork?

Yes. I can help you understand and complete disability-related forms and organize information that may be needed by an employer, insurer or healthcare provider.

Assistance with forms or other documentation does not guarantee that a disability claim or request for benefits will be approved. Decisions about eligibility and approval are made by the organization responsible for the claim and may involve many factors beyond the information or documentation we work on together.

Can you speak with my employer, insurer or healthcare provider?

Yes, when appropriate and at your request. You remain my client. With your consent, I can assist with communication when it would help you navigate your work or disability situation.

Do you manage disability claims?

No. This is not disability claims management. I work for you as an individual, helping you understand the process, organize information, consider your options and make decisions about work.

What if I don't know whether I can return to my previous job?

You don't have to know before you come. We can look at what has changed, what you are able to do now, possible workplace options and whether your previous work still fits.
